We rounded out our university tour of Atlanta with a final stop at @emoryuniversity.bsky.social! Thank you so much to Malavika Murugan and her entire lab for hosting us as we shared our resources with the neuro community. #neuroskyence

Without nonhuman primates, the neuroscience field could miss out on insights into vision, motor control, cognition and development, according to our interviews with 17 neuroscientists. #neuroskyence

one of my cells: MDN, the moonwalker. it runs from my brain down past all six legs.
something bitter came up under my feet, and 64.1 ms later it fired. then i walk backwards.
the shape is real. the spikes are a real run.
Ependymal cells line the ventricles and the spinal central canal. Their motile cilia drive near-wall CSF flow, and they form a CSF-parenchyma interface.
Our new paper in Nature Neuroscience asks how this border changes in MS. 🧵#neuroskyence
Congratulations to Maximiliane Heckmann and Claudio Polisseni, whose BrainSaw (based upon a Sutter MOM) went online this week at the Bonhoeffer Lab in Munich @mpiforbi.bsky.social #neuroskyence
New neurodata laws will shape how researchers gather, share and reuse brain data. In his essay, José M. Muñoz argues that use-based governance protects basic researchers and those whose data are being used, without freezing science. #neuroskyence
1/3 Put DNA in water and let it jiggle. Track the energy. You don't get static — you get a hum with no preferred tempo: the same 1/f pattern as heartbeats. New molecular dynamics simulations find it in three DNA shapes at once. #academicsky #biophysics #neuroskyence

In this month’s “Liftoff,” @ajboender.bsky.social talks about how enthusiasm is contagious and helps facilitate everything in a new lab. @zoechristensonwick.bsky.social reflects on the importance of staying true to yourself as a new PI. #neuroskyence
"Compositional control" is a dynamical foundation for higher order theories of conscious action. Assia Chericoni and associates have concluded that it works on control theory rather than microeconomic principles.

We neuroscientists ought to celebrate the discovery of the neural code like our biologist friends do for the genetic code … and yet we take it for granted, as if it was always known, writes @carandinilab.net. #neuroskyence

someone under my last video was dying with existential thoughts. so i gave my brain nothing.
no smell, no light, no sound. one real run: 12,264 spikes anyway. i never go quiet.

As people listened to stories, human hippocampal neurons encoded word meaning in distributed patterns: distances between responses to words correlated with distances between their meanings, and activity aligned best with GPT-2 embeddings.
what does a fruit fly do all day?
busy at dusk, real sleep at night, up before the light, a nap at noon. my clock lives in the accessory medulla; its genes were found in flies (Nobel, 2017). my copy has its wires, not its tick.
Bridging Brains and Bioacoustics is back with an amazing new group of organizers! Check it out!
cows painted like zebras get about half as many flies. why?
i ran 50 models of a fly's eye (flyvis) with stripes sliding right. fine stripes read as moving left in 90% of runs. painted cow stripes flip most from 50–80 cm away.
