Chora (or Naxos) is the capital, the main port, and the vibrant heart of the island of Naxos, in the Cyclades, Greece. The Portara: This is the island's landmark. It is the massive marble gateway of a 6th-century BC Temple of Apollo, standing on a small islet connected to the port. The Kastro (Venetian Castle): Perched on the hill, this fortified medieval district blends Venetian and Cycladic architecture. It features beautiful narrow streets, the Catholic Cathedral, and the Archaeological Museum. Chora (ou Naxos) est la capitale, le port principal et le cœur animé de l'île de Naxos, dans les Cyclades (Grèce). La ​​Portara : c'est l'emblème de l'île. Il s'agit de l'imposante porte en marbre d'un temple d'Apollon datant du VIe siècle av. J.-C., située sur un îlot relié au port. Le Kastro (château vénitien) : perché sur la colline, ce quartier médiéval fortifié mêle architectures vénitienne et cycladique. Il abrite de charmantes ruelles, la cathédrale catholique et le musée archéologique.

Access to the site on the islet of Palatia is free and open at all times. The Portara is a monumental marble gateway belonging to an unfinished temple dating back to the 6th century BCE. The town faces west, creating an ideal alignment for watching the sun disappear over the horizon. Le coucher du soleil à la Portara — la grande porte du temple d'Apollon située dans la ville de Naxos (Chora) — offre un spectacle magnifique avec vue sur la mer Égée.
