For #FlashbackFriday, it's #MTGinktober 160, "Compass // Curse," starring Kari Zev, Skyship Raider & Thaumatic Compass! Yet another example of the storied jinx, or curse, if you will: any illustration with KZ absolutely tanks. But at least this was a neat one, with a buncha subtle #MTG references.

For #TBT, it's #MTGinktober 159, "Helmet // Werewolf," starring Thalia, Guardian of Thraben & Ulrich, Uncontested Alpha! This was a conflicting combination of #MTG subject matter. I enjoy drawing Thalia & Ib's helmet, but I'm not crazy about drawing muscly characters, or monsters, for that matter.

For #FlashbackFriday, it's #MTGinktober 158, "Tick // Coven," starring Sigarda, Champion of Light & Kwain, Itinerant Meddler! This was once the timeliest turnaround of an #MTG character, as Sigarda was printed just weeks prior. & this is a rare illustration with an ink splotch--if you can spot it.

For #TBT, it's #MTGinktober 157, "Roof // Thirteen," starring Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh; Domri, Anarch of Bolas; & Nissa, Vastwood Seer! Back to the usual #MTG dosage of illustrations per week. This was a favorite concept--characters on their off time hanging out, so here are young PWs chillaxing.

Okay, for #FlashbackFriday, our final-final #MTGinktober retrospective is up, this time hopefully the images actually appear--I tried posting directly this time. For a convenient, if abbreviated gallery of 2025's run, plus all previous #MTG themed #Inktober runs, see:

Here's #Inktober2026 Day 1: #Apple, starring Ghoulcaller Gisa and Taste of Death.

Just one more bite.

#MTG + #inktober = #MTGinktober

Our final #MTGinktober retrospective is up, if you'd like a convenient gallery to view last year's run, plus all nine previous #MTG themed #Inktober runs, too. I don't know why some illustrations don't stay on Imgur, though--all of 2016 went missing once, for example.

For #FlashbackFriday, it's #MTGinktober 156, "Stuck // Festival," starring Gideon, Champion of Justice and Xenagos, the Reveler! We had a "No Universes Beyond" policy for our annual celebration of #MTG, but this was one of about three instances that squeaked in, though the most minimal, as signage.

For #TBT, it's #MTGinktober 155, "Sour // Spirit (II)," starring Dina, Soul Steeper and Topplegeist! 2021 featured a list from WotC in addition to the official one, so there were some repeat words, this one just days after the first instance of Spirit. But we make do as we make #MTG illustrations.

For #FlashbackFriday, it's #MTGinktober 154, "Pick // Transform," starring Rowan, Scholar of Sparks! I notice that as just like with Geralf when drawing Gisa, I find I get roped into having to draw Will when I draw Rowan, but also similarly, we find ways to minimize the duller half of the #MTG duo.

For #TBT, it's #MTGinktober 153, "Pressure // Flashback," starring Killian, Ink Duelist! It's funny, I can't really remember drawing some of these #MTG illustrations, but I can feel a sense-memory about them, and this one was definitely exhaustion. Gotta plan for it with "rest" days like this one.

For #FlashbackFriday, it's #MTGinktober 152, "Watch // Day/Night," starring Village Watch! As I suspected, checking my notes, I was quite exhausted by this, 2021's day 8. After the first week is when it starts to hit you. Low energy plus uninspiring prompts make for lackluster #MTG illustrations.

For #TBT, it's #MTGinktober 151, "Fan // Investigate," starring Young Pyromancer, Young Necromancer, and Floodhound! One of the more enjoyable parts about doing these #MTG drawings was finding ways to incorporate real-world news into them, which felt like dusting off my old editorial comics skillz.
