It’s Minerals Day for Earth Science Week so I thought I would share one reason why I adore minerals: the colours!! I love the deep red of this rhodochrosite from N’Chwaning mine, South Africa. #MineralMonday #GeoscienceBluesky #MineralsDay #EarthScienceWeek ⚒️🧪

Specimen of deep red rhodochrosite crystals forming a very rough rectangular shape of the specimen. Some crystals are dogtooth shaped. It sits on a black background. At the Sorbonne.

Something quick for #MineralMonday, a pretty little beryl (aquamarine, I reckon) I broke out as an exemplar cyclosilicate for lab a couple weeks back. ⚒️🧪💎

Light blue-green beryl (aquamarine?) on quartz from a site called Pacific Peak, out of the Marietta College Slack collection.

No #MineralMonday today. Without contributions from people like you, I have nothing to post.

Would you like to feature your research, field photos, a neat mineral, a recent publication? Please send information and up to 4 images to akoziol1 at udayton dot edu.

A cute little rhomb of rhodochrosite, a shape you see in other minerals with a similar crystal structure. #MineralMonday #GeoscienceBluesky ⚒️🧪

Specimen of opaque pink rhomb of rhodochrosite on a base of rock composed of white quartz crystals and pyrite cubes. It sits on a wood background. At the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

Welcome back to another #mineralmonday

Here is a cut and polished slab of Banded Fluorite from China. Fluorite can form in hydrothermal veins that carry large amounts of calcium and fluorine. Those veins find open spaces in rocks and eventually cool and crystallize.
