It is #wipw folks! Here's a little snippet from an upcoming Head of State scene, my political-intrigue, modern AU with cultivation #chengyi fic.

JC's angry thoughts are always the most fun to write. 🍇

Jiang Cheng loved Lan Jingyi's mouth for any number of reasons. And sect rules and discipline were necessary, of course, but they should be used to rein in disrespect, malcontent and laziness. Not exuberance. Much less something that was entirely beyond Lan Jingyi's control, as if a whole lifetime of knowing him shouldn't have proven that much to Lan Xichen. "Wanyin. Wanyin!" Lan Jingyi panted. Jiang Cheng suddenly realized he was walking very fast, forcing Lan Jingyi into a jog to keep up. The cadre of his personal guard trailing them were also hoofing it. He tried to slow down, but it was challenging to communicate rational thought to his body through his fog of anger. "Are you mad at Zewu Jun?" "Yes," Jiang Cheng snapped. He had no right to put a spiritual godsdamn finger on Lan Jingyi. But it wasn’t entirely true. As maddening as it was, he had to admit that Lan Xichen was Lan Jingyi's sect leader. Lan Jingyi was his subject and his disciple. He technically had a right to discipline Lan Jingyi how he saw fit, and Jiang Cheng was the one who overstepped by intervening. But Lan Jingyi was his, not Lan Xichen's. Maybe not his subject or his disciple. Just his.

It's WIPW, and I'm hard at work hammering out more Head of State (hit 95k wc today 😱.) But no spoilers here, just a quick preview for next Monday's chapter, with our very favorite Wens entering the storrryyy.

“Am I going crazy?” Lan Jingyi wondered aloud, stepping uneasily toward one of the off-shoot rooms to peer inside the window. “It’s Monday, right?” “Hello.” “AH!” Lan Jingyi shrieked. He jumped actual inches off the ground like a startled cat. A woman stepped into view, hands up in a non-threatening pose. “Sorry,” she said, “didn’t mean to startle you.” “I’m dead. I’m literally dead,” Lan Jingyi panted, his heart racing. “You killed me.” She smirked and, oh, OH, he knew this woman. Of all the people in all the world. “Dr. Wen Qing,” she said, holding out her hand for him to shake, same as she had the first time he’d met her. “I know who you are,” Lan Jingyi admitted, then wished he hadn’t. Why was he was so awkward? He rushed to take her hand and shake it, hoping he could recover. And yet, it was somehow more awkward.
