What if we had another number of fingers? This 1st grader had an answer for 11; for 16: "I would ask my daddy"! #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun

We looked at counting including when items were missing, patterns including one where we included and discussed randomness, and partitioning. She brought a cool Lego(tm) structure and we discussed symmetry. #mtbos #iteachmath
@dbarman.bsky.socialIn Stanford #mathCircle for 1st/2nd grade this wk we reviewed hw incl finding "Handshake Numbers" which some saw as Triangle Numbers. I love how some enacted this. One made a cartoon showing she understands-why with, say, 20 people, there are 19+18+17+...+ 0 handshakes. #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun
