James Poskett @uni-of-warwick.bsky.social and Lynette Russell @lynetterussell.bsky.social @monashuniversity.bsky.social on 'Contesting Collecting: Indigenous Material Cultures'

#Materiality #History #Museums #Roundtable

👉Read open access: www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

This dialogue explores how we understand and contest the collecting of Indigenous material cultures. Poskett, using several case studies explores how Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspectives can complicate fixed notions of materiality. Russell, drawing on her own heritage and interdisciplinary research, emphasizes cross-contextualization and the agency of Indigenous communities in shaping how cultural materials are interpreted. Together, they ask how Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspectives can reshape the history of science and museums.
