@sandylee0071.bsky.social“Why didn’t you tell me?” Alec loathed how his voice trembled. “I would’ve deserved to know. I deserved the right to choose.”
Magnus sighed heavily. “Maybe. But even if you knew… Do you honestly imagine that your parents would’ve let you decide what to do freely?”

“Ah, you must be him.”
A shudder crossed Magnus. He, however, maintained his composure easily. “I’m a nobody.”
Was that amusement or approval? Both? “Here in Alicante, it’s infinitely safer to be a nobody than a somebody.”
So Magnus was starting to conclude.

Maybe Magnus should’ve held his tongue but he couldn’t. “Why are you treating me like this? I can see that you hate it. Are you doing it to protect yourself?”
Alec froze, back towards him. “I’m doing it to protect you. People who care about me too much get hurt.”
@sandylee0071.bsky.socialMagnus put his finger down and let the tiny, golden creature climb on it. “Maybe I’m overdramatic. But it’s not every day one finds something this rare and beautiful. And your brute of a guard was going to crush her.”
“Her?” Alec echoed.
“Of course.”

“Don’t you ever get tired of it? Of people treating us like we’re not real. Like we exist solely for their entertainment.”
“It’s what we were born into”, Alec pointed out dryly.
“That doesn’t answer my quest…” Magnus trailed off. “Or actually, it does.”

“Hodge is just cautious with new people.”
Magnus understood Izzy’s naivety. She’d never been judged for her appearance or sexuality. Magnus’ hadn’t been as fortunate, but at least he’d learned to watch his own back
@sandylee0071.bsky.socialSomething large moved right outside Magnus’ door. Something that definitely wasn’t human. It advanced slowly, emitted small, almost pained noises every now and then. The sounds the creature’s nails made upon scratching the floor were chilling
Was it searching for something?

“This world is so scared of change and people being different that if we don’t help fight for it, it will never change for better. We can choose to hide and stay silent. Or we can stand up for those who are like us. We can choose to defend what’s important to us.”

Alec couldn’t just stand back and take it any longer. The words were roared out before he could process or filter them. “You still don’t get it, do you? To me this isn’t just some stupid show, this is my whole life! Everything I’ve accomplished in this world!”

“I’ve been pushing you hard for answers. I’m sorry.” Alec swallowed. “I know you’ve had people in your life who have pushed you to do things before you were ready. I can’t become one of them so… I’ll wait”

Then Andrew was definitely leaning closer.
