New #Maiden album? 🤔

As great as the songs are on the self-titled debut #Maiden album, Wil Malone’s flat, fizzless production doesn’t do them much justice. I really wish Martin Birch had produced it. Imagine these classics with that “Killers” depth, dynamic, and power. Yowza!

One such #Maiden song from “Dance of Death” is ‘New Frontier’. The instrumental stretch from 2:47-3:25 is, to my 👂, pure “Number of the Beast” vibes, without really sounding like any particular song from that album. Great stuff!

I’m always down on it because of the cover, the title track, and the high expectations after “BNW”. Putting that aside, yeah, really solid stuff. Enjoying letting it get its hooks in me (sorry, bad #Maiden dad joke).

I saw #BlazeBayley with his band in Mannheim last night. I went because i wanted to hear #IronMaiden songs. Many Blaze era #Maiden songs are phenomenal, but are ignored. Hearing him sing them in a little club was such a treat. Blaze is a class guy and an amazing perfromer. 🤘

In fact, I was listening to ‘No More Lies’ while doing a few household chores (🤘🏻) this morning. My wife, who can take or leave #Maiden, was milling around with me too. It suddenly occurred to me that ‘NML’ is probably what Maiden sound like to people who don’t like Maiden! 😆

I like this #maiden far more than the other one I drew with red hair but I'm so not satisfied with the face so idk if it's done yet. Been playing about with “my” version of “The Final Frontier” by #Maiden. I always thought ‘Satellite 15’ was crap. Apart from some portions of the middle section, ‘When the Wild 💨 Blows’ remains a low ebb of 21C Maiden. And I’d drop ‘The Alchemist’, a rote rocker. The shaves over 20 minutes off it.

Last night I learned of the lawsuit from the early 00s, between #Maiden and the 70s prog band Beckett. It concerned the similarities between the former’s ‘The Nomad’ (2000) and the latter’s ‘Life’s Shadow’ (1974). From 3:51 into the Beckett track, it’s undeniable. A settlement was agreed.

This is the one. There are tiers of greatness to album tracks. It’s a close run race between ‘Dreams of Mirrors’, ‘The Nomad’, ‘Ghost of the Navigator’ on the second tier as far as #Maiden “Brave New World” is concerned. ‘Nomad’ almost makes it, but this one… This is absolutely majestic.

As nut-busting as #Maiden Y2K were, I was always left a little wanting by ‘The Wicker Man’. I also think, with hindsight, a lot of what I struggle with in Kevin Shirley’s production in general is all right there in that song. I’ll try and articulate what I mean…

Finished the Talking #Maiden podcast episodes on “Virtual XI” last night. Funny bit where they say that Nicko looks like he doesn’t want to be there in the footie team promo pick. He does sound bored throughout a lot of the album. Going through the motions. Hardly any fills. 🥱
