@4tune06.bsky.socialTurns out that yesterday marks 45 years since Urusei Yatsura anime debuted on Fuji TV in Japan, or as what I've been told.
But does anyone remember that the infamous BBC Choice gag dub went viral at one point?
That was wild as hell.

@dadaph.noShiny balloons are just so fun to draw🎈🥰
Tried to add some tiger pattern to them to match Goth Lum's character, but does it work?
I just can't make up my mind!
Which version do you like the most?

It occurred to me that I haven't drawn #Lum

@drummingoni.bsky.socialLum is confused. Why are there TWO Darlings?
Edd and Ataru are pointing each other accusing them for copying their identity.
Special thanks to @theabbeyroadie.bsky.social for the sketch as Rumiko Takahashi's birthday comes to a close.

Edd and Ataru are pointing each other accusing them for copying their identity.
"Why the hell do you look like me?!", Edd exclaimed.
"Why the hell do YOU look like me?!", Ataru exclaimed too.
Lum is standing in the middle drawn as a chibi version. "W-wait - Which one is the real darling?", Lum said as she is confused.](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_fullsize/plain/did:plc:sd3k5nxspv32zi2o2mvxy67w/bafkreihjqaoiirx37hpklo7642pwt4d6762xtixwcqpobrdzr5nsjounbq@jpeg)

@ochan35.bsky.socialAtaru's Mom may not get as much screen time as she did in the Oshii era but I love how she takes whatever she is given and RUNS with it!

@ochan35.bsky.socialSo yeah...BOTH chapters that were the basis for this episode were so early in the manga's run that Viz published them before the manga went on that looooooooooong hiatus before our modern release.

@ochan35.bsky.socialSometimes it's VERY clear this is proto-Ranma and proto-Akane right down to sharing the same braincell and if folks didn't ship Ryuu with Benten then Shinobu was the "other" option!

@ochan35.bsky.socialWhat's even funnier is the 2008 30th Anniversary OVA adapted parts of this volume too, so they were STILL making new animation from this volume!
(I know I haven't talked about tonight's episode but it's Ten so I DO NOT CARE!)

@ochan35.bsky.socialBTW, @digiranma.bsky.social if you happen upon any bookstore that happens to carry Urusei Yatsura Vol. 14 when you flip through it you'll probably go "Wow, they pretty much adapted the ENTIRE season from this volume!"
#UruseiYatsura #LUM #ThoseObnoxiousAliens #Episode186 #AnimeRetroRewatch
@ochan35.bsky.socialIt is funny how both the UY and Ranma reboots gave Ten and Happosai MUCH less screentime which is very telling on both the OG animes.
#UruseiYatsura #LUM #ThoseObnoxiousAliens #Episode185 #AnimeRetroRewatch @digiranma.bsky.social
@ochan35.bsky.socialSo while this is manga based we've reached the part of the series where they're adapting the "current" chapters more conservatively and either doing filler or adapting stuff from WAY earlier in the run!

@ochan35.bsky.socialI'm having flashbacks to the "Spring of Drowned Man" arc and the Ranma cast getting stuck in various traps in the Kuno Estate!

@ochan35.bsky.socialYou can TELL this was SUPPOSED to be after Ran was shortly introduced but the anime was running on fumes at this point and adapted it here!
#UruseiYatsura #LUM #ThoseObnoxiousAliens #Episode184 #AnimeRetroRewatch @digiranma.bsky.social
@ochan35.bsky.socialYeah...Ataru deserved ALL of that! Also I wanna point out this is adopting the earlier manga chapters and contrasts with a leter episode is his whole "pickup" routine!
