You taste my edges,

Painting me across walls,

I see

Through static I draw her

For three months and sixteen nights
And will see again tomorrow

Her fifty-one years
My forty-nine years
My life beige, without cackles
Packed away with winter clothes

She says she likes me
My arm hairs stand up
I can make her laugh
A loud country cackle

I pull her smile from the dark
The uneven smile
More left than right
She gives it to me

Maybe I am Icarus

That can make my chest collapse.

Yet still—

Let me drip upon your skin.
If my last breath

In the slow, steady heartbeat of sleep
