"The Louis S. St. Laurent Building—formerly Quebec City’s main post office—is located at 3 Passage du Chien-d’Or (at the corner of Rue de Buade and Rue du Fort) in the Upper Town of Old Quebec.
Built between 1872 and 1873 by architect Pierre Gauvreau, it was expanded and remodelled between 1913 and 1919 (notably with the addition of an imposing dome on the east side).
This L-shaped building, three-and-a-half stories tall and constructed of cut limestone, combines Second Empire and Beaux-Arts styles.
It is named after Louis S. St. Laurent, Prime Minister of Canada from 1949 to 1958.
Designated a National Historic Site, the building is an integral part of the historic urban landscape of Old Quebec. The ground floor still houses the Upper Town branch of Canada Post, while the upper floors accommodate government offices.
The famous 17th-century bas-relief depicting the "Golden Dog" (*Chien d’or*) has been preserved and incorporated into the building's masonry.
