Alleykat

I always thought (with my limited attention to it BITD) that this was a pretty average schmup / racer for the #C64, but, as with Morpheus - I wasn't giving the game the time it deserves. There are tactics here, many neat touches and gaming innovations. It's a real pleasure.

The Griblets are animated in this "loading" screen for ALLEYKAT on the C64.

Match Day II

Okay. So, I have never played this #C64 football game and after booting it up, I am thinking - wait, am I playing Head Over Heels..? The menu system is exactly the same. That is just odd. I get into a match and wow. What is even going on here..? I'm really not sure... 😂

Faithful rendition of the box art which is very typically 80s footy. Two players jostling, one belting the moon-like ball. Ocean logo.

Combat School

Known in the US as "Boot School" think of this as "Military Hypersports" for the #C64. And what is that Galway title SID - totally brilliant. This is a cracking game that I always assumed was absolute pony on a stick. Cannae wait to get ol' @fuzzweed.co.uk over to play it!

A fully packed loading screen for COMBAT SCOOL on the C64. It screams Oorah!

Vendetta

I had #C64 Vendetta on a System 3 compilation that bizarrely I am no longer in possession of, but no matter. In fact, I think I also had it on those small boxed cassette games that Turrican and Creatures originally came in. This game is good. But it makes it >>>

A still for the rather nice "video" intro of System 3's "Vendetta" on the C64.

Gryzor

Contra was never my bag BITD, but I know a lot of people liked it. This #C64 conversion of the European "Gryzor" is pretty ropey. Play Midnight Resistence - it is much better. No 2-PLY, awful graphics, a repetitive SID and a difficulty level so ridiculous it is laughable. Nope.

Ocean logo. Arnie. An Alien head (from Aliens) and the Gryzor logo. Selling out much?

Alien Syndrome

This Dude's massive eyes glow at you at the beginning, remember! #C64 arcade action never been so good! Despite a few annoyances, AS remains a thoroughly decent arcade conversion to this day. It is WELL worth a play. And it is 2-PLY Co-Op! Really very very good.

A nasty looking alien McPrime is bearing down on our two Hero Protagonists: Barbara Yellow Shirt and Bobby Blue Tits. In spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace!

Misson A.D.

Indeed, I *had* not played this #C64 (albeit: SID) Classic until this morning and it is a perfectly lovely mid-80s Run 'n' Gun game, with some neat elevator action (!) and map-changing mechanics. But, just doing this and trying to limit energy-depletion all game is not fun.

The "Mission A.D." loading screen on the C64 - white background, big blue gun with a metal scope on it. Nice.

Exterminator

Dateline 1991 and the #C64 is in its prime, slapping out amazing games, retail carts, the C64GS (ahem!) and new magazines hitting the shelves of WHSmith. This is a pretty cool game, it looks great, plays well and there is a lot going on. If only the controls were easier...

It says EXTERMINATOR in bones, but the "o" is a skull. Nice.

Suburban Commando

To be fair to this title screen, quite a moody SID is playing and the colour palette does switch as it flicks between two screens, but all else is the same. So. Uh, okay. 1993, things are a little strange for #C64 owners... What even is this?

Well, this is awful.

Puzzle Bobble

I was looking for "Z" yesterday and many repositories do not let you search for 1 character, so, I was trying various iterations to get me to the game and - I saw this. An "unnoficcial" #C64 converstion, I fired it up last night and was fairly stunned by how good it was. >

Is it Bubble Bobble? No it is not, it is Puzzle Bobble!

Z

Well, it's a bit of a chore trying to track down any info or a download on this little #C64 game, but when you do, it is a right decent shooter. Super fast 8-way scrolling, wrap-around playing areas and lots of things to blast and dodge. Chris Butler - not a bad maker of games!

Plenty Zeds, Baby. Plenty Zeds...

#MorningAwnings! I am away for the weekend, getting this, for one thing, touched up! #C64 FTW! I also got another new tattoo, which I will share drekkly. No #LogLoads64 until I get back home. Enjoy your Vancouver, y'all!

Log's 20 year old C= logo tattoo, retouched.

Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles

Late 1990, early 1991 and the #C64 and the rest of the home computers are fighting hard against Nintendo and SEGA. And so, we see utter dross like this being developed and released. I mean, if you're a fan of the TMHT (as they were called over here): is okay?

A fairly gaudy-looking montage of the 4 TMHT: Don, Leo, Mich and Raph all in their correct colouring and all carrying their correct weaponary. It's actually not bad.

Gotcha!

Have you ever heard of this #C64 game? Have you ever played it? I only know about it as I remember it from CF back in the day, but I have never, until now, played it. Think infinity-moving Arkanoid and Bombuzal puzzler that isn't very good. £20 and disk only in 1990. Goodbye.

Log says "Gotcha!" and it isn't an April Fools...

Potatoball (1990)

DOMARK! Argh! We're DOOMED! Et cetera. #C64 sports games a two-a-penny, but there aren't really that many "American Football" type games, I guess they were just to tricksy to implement. Well, this futuristic sports title is absolute dirge. Apalling SID + All else.

#LogLoads64 (Reloaded)
Rainbow Islands

I love finding really good games in my Excel Spreadsheet List that I didn't fill out properly, thus allowing a "Reloaded". Simply put: one of the greatest #C64 platformers out there. Possibly the best. The whole thing is so on-point and wonderfully executed.

The exceptionally glorious and detailed "Rainbow Islands" loading screen on the C64. There is so much cute going on here. Sea, sunset sky, massive rainbow, spiders, flying creatures, pots, birds coming out of eggs and our hero, clutching his gold star that fires... rainbows! It is just so good.

F1 Tornado

So I have just spent an hour downloading all entries of this from CSDb and not one of them has the loading screen. ARGH! So, here is the title screen to this rather nifty little #C64 shooter. Zeppelin made some howlers, but they also made some gems. This is a good 'un!

F1 Tornado title screen on the C64. Nice side-on of what I assume is said aircraft.
