Monday hits different when you're building a life somewhere new. The paperwork is real, the doubts are real, but so is the person you're becoming. You're already braver than you know.

Before Colombia, I associated razor wire and electric fences with prisons and military bases.

Not people’s homes.

Where you live changes what you consider ordinary.

You don't become an expat to escape your people. You become one to find new people who feel like home.

So yesterday I was formally pre-diagnosed with possibly having both PTSD and maybe ADHD. Something I've been suspecting for some time now, and I think it's really going to be changing my perspective on the rest of my life.

Dinner at 9 PM isn't late in Spain, it's normal. Lunch is the main event, eaten at home for hours. If you're hungry at 6 PM, welcome to culture shock. What meal timing surprised you abroad?

#cultureshock #expatlife #movingabroad #livingabroad #expat

CULTURE SHOCK · Meal timing and structure. In Spain and several Latin American countries, the main meal (almuerzo or comida) typically occurs at midday and lasts 1-2 hours, often with a family gathered at home, while dinner is a light meal eaten around 9-10 PM. swipe →This rhythm reflects historical agricultural schedules and strong family-centered culture, but expats accustomed to eating dinner at 6-7 PM often struggle with hunger and social timing. swipe →Restaurants may not even serve dinner until 8 PM or later, making early evening dining frustrating for newcomers. What surprised you abroad? 👇

After nine moves, I learned this: home isn't the place you start from. It's the people who recognize you when you arrive somewhere new.

In Spain, dinner starts late. Sitting down to eat much before 9pm can quietly mark you as a tourist. What's a norm that caught you off guard abroad?
