‘Littluns’ Villanelle
We were only young
when the plane crashed.
What were they doing?
We’re alone among,
we were unabashed.
We were only young.
Always pursuing,
somebody’s head smashed.
What were they doing?
We had played, had sung,
in the sea we splashed.
We were only young.
Trouble was brewing,
signal fire flashed.
What were they doing?
To parents we clung,
civility trashed.
We were only young,
what were they doing?
