#Pittsburgh #Pirates 🏴‍☠️ became #WorldSeries  Champs a 2nd time!

Down 3-games-to-1, The #Buccos forced a 7th game at Forbes Field.

Facing the Senators’ Walter Johnson, the Bucs overcame a 4-run late-inning deficit to win 9-7!

OTD 10/15/1925:

“It rained most of the game making the field a mass of tricky sticky mud; outfield was filled with puddles; burned oil had removed most of the surface moisture from the infield.”

The good book of Jim Trdinich. #LetsGoBucs

A tradition like no other in sports:

Fans gather at the remnants of Forbes Field in #Pittsburgh annually on 10/13 to celebrate the anniversary of Bill Mazeroski’s walk off home run that gave the #Pirates the 1960 #WorldSeries title vs the #Yankees.

Bill Mazeroski & #Buccos beat #Yankees 10-9!

#Pittsburgh #Pirates Hall of Fame 2B became the hero of the 1960 #WorldSeries , authoring the greatest HR ever!

Maz on his thoughts before the fateful at-bat:

Pirates against the Milwaukee Brewers & LA Dodgers in NLCS:

7-6 vs Milwaukee
1-5 vs Los Angeles

That’s combined 8-11 record for a .421 win percentage.

Not bad against the Brewers.

Real bad against the Dodgers.

Dodgers are the only LCS team to win a series vs the Bucs in 2026. #LetsGoBucs

I’m sitting here thinking about the Pirates and the ALCS combatants.

Bucs had a good series against both teams.

Pirates went 2-1 against both the Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Guardians.

Going 4-2 overall for a 66.67 win percentage. #LetsGoBucs

It hasn’t occurred to me until right now that I saw the last Pirates postseason game at Three Rivers Stadium.

Surely wasn’t thinking about it in that context that night. #LetsGoBucs

OTD 10/11/1992:

We didn’t know it then, but #Pirates’ Bob Walk throws the last pitch ever in a playoff game at #Pittsburgh’s Three Rivers Stadium 🏟 .

The #Buccos wouldn’t play another home playoff game until 21 years later...

#LetsGoBucs

OTD 10/11/92:

The #Pirates turned to Bob Walk to keep the dream alive in Game 5 of the NLCS.

To paraphrase Vin Scully: Walk was able to use that achy old groin to push the sun back up into the sky and give us one more day of summer☀️ ⚾️ #LetsGoBucs

I was at Three Rivers Stadium that night for Game 5 of the NLCS.

Pirates won 7-1 and people there talked about it all night if he’d actually play.

I kinda saw history that night? #LetsGoBucs

Omar is one of my all-time Pirate favorites. Loved watching him steal bases! #LetsGoBucs

Happy #NationalMetricDay 10/10!

As an American you might think the metric system sucks…

BUT

In 1978 #Pittsburgh #Pirates slugger Willie Stargell ⭐️ hit a mammoth homer 163 METERS at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium!

And that’s awesome 🤩

OTD 10/9/92:

Tim Wakefield became a legend.

Down 2-0 in the NLCS, #Pirates beat #Braves 3-2 in Game 3 at Three Rivers.

The rookie Wakefield (CG 5h 2er 1bb 3k) was masterful. #Pittsburgh’s Don Slaught struck 1st w/a game-tying solo HR.

HBD 🎂 10/9/1963 former #Pittsburgh #Pirates SS Felix Fermin!

Felix played for the #Buccos from 1987-88, hitting .265 in 66 games.

Fermin was traded as a PBTNL to Cleveland along with Denny Gonzalez for a PBTNL, which became longtime PIT SS Jay Bell.

Watching Bednar throw gas in the postseason is an uncomfortable reminder that the Pirates caved to fan pressure and gave up on him, n’at. #LetsGoBucs
