This Belted Kingfisher clearly knew I was approaching. But instead of flying away, it flew right in front of me for about 30 seconds, laughed and flew out of my view, but still laughing. #birds #kingfishers

While focused on the Bald Eagles above Lake Elkhorn a Belted Kingfisher flew away, across to another bank. Figuring I'll see him more often now that he's back for the season I fired off one exposure and then returned to the eagles. #birds #eagles #kingfishers #ColumbiaMaryland
I finally managed to get out with my camera the other week. One reserve was a write-off, with no water and no birds. My usual kingfisher spot was just as it should have been though and I managed to photograph a new adult male and a juvenile #photography #kingfishers

🪶@atlanticbirding.bsky.social has chosen today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme as #Elegant; any elegant looking bird. A good few choices but today I’ll go for the Kingfisher that i photographed in South Yorkshire #birds #UKbirds #NatureIsAmazing @yorkswildlife.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social 💙🧡 #KINGFISHERS

End of the day, but here is my #BirdOfTheDay: #Mamas&Papas submission. Back in July I was visiting a nearby breeding spot for #Kingfishers regularly. These two brought up a 3 nests. During this photo the second younglings hadn't even fledged yet, but they were already working on the next batch. 🪶
👍
#Dippers & #Greywagtails common on Rotten Calder River in #EastKilbride but #Kingfishers are very rare.

Side by side
In their stand off the kingfishers continued to get closer and closer.
Endurance!
These two kingfishers had a stand off a few days ago which lasted for over 3 hours.
Both standing tall to try to intimidate each other, on a few occasions they did come to blows, but they carried on, until a dog disturbed them.
Clocked!
The moment he spotted me this morning.
I can't complain, he had been sat there for 5 minutes.
This was after yet more drama down on the River Lea.
