Sometimes a composition relies more on subtle nuance than on the rule of thirds or the golden ratio. This is the left side of a children's picture book two-page spread that follows typical composition guidelines. But that's not enough to portray two people who have fallen in love with their life ahead of them. The subtle things tell the story. Her direct gaze, overhand grip, and bent knees communicate a "Let's Go!" body language. His relaxed posture says, "I'm ready!" The two little recurring hummingbirds that represent them are already flying down the road ahead.

I love capturing simple, subtle, descriptive emotions that reveal intricate stories. Could there be a more intricate story than the moment two people fall in love?
