Belle had an eye for the fish, but couldn’t quite get the catch. It was hard to watch her try and not succeed. I was sad I wasn’t able to be there to watch her a bit later in the season when the salmon ran heavy.

Mama Belle battled hard for the fish, but the other bear won out. If you look closely, the other bear is so proud of her catch, she decides to poop on her way out to the beach to eat it. 🤣

While the other bear fishing were running, jumping and diving, Shelli and her yearlings just took it easy. Just slow nose fishing and meandering down the river - if they caught a fish, they caught a fish if they didn’t they didn’t care.

Tense Moment
This was one of the very few moments of tension while I was filming in Katmai. If it was tense for those of us watching, I can’t even imagine what the cameraman felt as Shelli’s three extremely large yearlings checked him out.
