#kaleidosaturday
#kaleidoscope

I was standing in my garden at 6 pm watching in real time hundreds and hundreds if not thousands of migrating pink footed geese arriving for winter in this area. The sky was full of murderous sounding cries. I stood transfixed watching wave after wave after wave of pink-footed geese flying overhead. I was standing right under their main flight corridor the exact hour they were making landfall. Where I live, on the deeside estuary, has become a massive hotspot for these birds. I used to be able to see the river and over the water when I first moved here before all the trees grew taller. That is how close I am. I could still hear all the geese after they landed. They were at the end of their 12 to 24 hour non-stop journey from their breeding grounds in Iceland and Greenland. They are coming in to sleep or roost rather for the night. They can settle safely at Burton Mere Wetlands, Parkgate or Heswall. Or even at the bird reserve at the power station. I thought something was being murdered when I first heard them. Apparently because they were dropping altitude so quickly to land they make a frantic high pitched racket that sounds like total chaos and distress. In the morning I will be able to watch them every day with my early morning cup of tea as they come back into inland to feed on left over harvest crops and agricultural fields. And every night I will be able to watch them come back to roost on the Wetlands.

Hi #KaleidoSaturday folks! Very late from me today as we spent the morning at the vets with one of our cats again (she's doing OK though). This was a random kaleido I pulled out of my archive when we got back home. Created from some checked fabric I had.

"Devon, what if we hurt it?"

"We're not going to hurt it. We just need it to be small."

"We're literally cutting it out of space before it's fully grown. It feels so cruel."

"Amy, you signed up! What part of 'Project Star Caesarian' wasn't clear from the briefing?"

"I'm just saying we should think about how space feels."
