The peaceful removal of leaders through free and fair elections is one of democracy’s greatest achievements. When politicians try to undermine that process, they aren’t defending the country. They’re challenging its right to choose.

Authoritarianism thrives when people confuse obedience with patriotism. Loving your country doesn’t mean applauding its leaders. Sometimes patriotism means standing in their way and demanding they obey the Constitution.
The ballot box is not the only place democracy lives, but it remains one of the most important places citizens can challenge power. Protect access to it. Protect the counting of votes. Protect the peaceful transfer of power.
Your vote is not a love letter to a politician. It’s a tool for deciding who gets power, who loses it and who answers to the public. Stop expecting perfection from candidates and start demanding accountability from government.
RAGE INTO THE MIDTERMS! 🔥
Not with violence. With ballots, organization and a refusal to surrender our rights. Let every attack on democracy become another reason to participate. They can ignore our outrage. They cannot simply erase our votes.
Resistance requires stamina. Not every battle will make headlines. Not every lawsuit will succeed. Not every election will deliver the result you wanted. Keep building anyway. Authoritarianism benefits when disappointment becomes surrender.
Authoritarian regimes don’t fear people who complain privately. They fear people who organize publicly, vote consistently, document abuses and refuse to disappear. Resistance becomes powerful when frustration turns into collective action.
Authoritarianism wants citizens afraid, divided, exhausted and convinced nothing can change.
Give it organized resistance.
Give it informed voters.
Give it independent institutions.
Give it accountability.
And when the people speak, make power LISTEN.
You cannot build a functioning democracy around one person’s ego. Government is not a fan club. Public office is not a family inheritance. And the Constitution is not a suggestion box for whoever happens to be in charge.🤨
Voter suppression doesn’t always announce itself with a dramatic speech. Sometimes it arrives as confusing rules, reduced access, administrative obstacles and endless excuses. Pay attention to who benefits when voting becomes harder.
🗣️ Public executions don’t just end a life. They change a nation’s relationship with violence, punishment and human dignity. When death becomes a public spectacle, America risks teaching its citizens to applaud cruelty instead of questioning power.
When cruelty becomes entertainment, humiliation becomes politics and suffering becomes something people cheer, democracy has a cultural problem long before it becomes a constitutional one.
Authoritarian movements love rewriting yesterday because yesterday contains receipts. Save the documents. Archive the statements. Remember the dates. Memory becomes dangerous when power depends on amnesia.
The erosion of democracy can look boring while it’s happening: a rule changed here, an official removed there, another norm ignored, another watchdog weakened. Boring does not mean harmless. Pay attention America! 🇺🇸
Authoritarian politics teaches people that some Americans matter less than others. Red state. Blue state. It doesn’t matter. A government that treats any American city as expendable has abandoned the meaning of national unity.
Authoritarianism doesn’t require everyone to become a believer. It needs enough people to become tired, distracted or convinced resistance is useless. That’s why staying engaged matters.
Democracy has a dangerous sentence: “Surely somebody will stop this.” Sometimes that somebody is a judge. Sometimes a journalist. Sometimes Congress. And sometimes it’s millions of ordinary people refusing to cooperate.
When power attacks judges for judging, journalists for reporting, inspectors for inspecting and watchdogs for watching, I’m going to take a wild guess that the problem isn’t everybody suddenly becoming terrible at their jobs.🤨
Authoritarian power wants resistance to feel pointless.
That’s why it works so hard to convince you nothing matters, nobody can stop it and everyone else has already given up.
Hopelessness is useful to power.
Don’t donate yours.
