Proper Sunday activity for this perimenopausal lady 😛 Spending time in our greenhouse and sowing lettuce seeds in recycled water jugs.

I pulled all the daikon from the greenhouse; I have to keep trying to get them to grow bigger. For now, I added one in sinigang, or Filipino sour soup; the rest were pickled in salt-sugar brine.
Aaaaand the bok choys are down in the greenhouse!!! Two of them started to show roots; the 3rd one not so much but I planted it anyway.
My first daikon harvest LOLZ Seeds were put down August 9; today is October 15 = 68 days

Tuesday morning walk in the backyard, October 13, 2026 😀 I decided to harvest almost all of the rosemary before it gets cold; tied them up and now they’re above the induction stove for some fragrance while I’m cooking.
Sunday rainy morning walk in the backyard, October 11, 2026 😀 My first ever spinach harvest. I’ve never been successful with spinach, so this is pretty good! I guess it’s more of a greenhouse veg than open air. Pretty tasty in my breakfast omelet.
I took this photo from our kitchen. I watched this squirrel jump from the fence, down the metal coop on 1 of the veg boxes, up the tomato arch, on to the next. I really wanted to run outside screaming w a stick, but it was too early in the morning.

I can see a daikon shoulder!

14 days later and the bok choy have green leaves and one stump has signs of roots forming. I added one more and it’s catching up.
Saturday morning walk in the backyard, October 10, 2026 😀 Visiting the last of the tomatoes. Come on, tomatoes, you can do it!

I was going to just let the tomatoes go since it’s already October, but there were so many fruits waiting to ripen that I pruned them again to hopefully get one more bounty. They’re all catching up now; here’s one Black Beauty today.
I’m tickled at how these bok choys are growing! After using their leaves and stems, I put their bottoms on a shallow dish. 4 days later, they’re sprouting new leaves. When roots start to show, I’m going to move them to the greenhouse.
I planted the music garlic today, about 12 cloves of them. Let’s see if any of them take and survive throughout the winter; if I get lucky, harvest is not until July 2027!
Beautiful Saturday morning walk in the backyard, October 3, 2026 😀 My phone can’t capture how bright the asters and goldenrods are in our backyard right now! They make me smile!

Thursday afternoon walk in the backyard, October 1, 2026 😀 I think I have ghost eggplants because they didn’t get enough sun. I stopped pruning the tomatoes because the season is almost over so their leaves have shaded them.
Friday morning walk in the backyard, September 25, 2026 😀 We’ve had heat waves and rainstorms this summer, so these native flowers are later than usual: asters, sneezeweed, goldenrod. The bees are still loving our garden here in Jersey City, NJ!
Friday morning greenhouse check, September 25, 2026 😀 About 50 days after putting down seeds, the daikon is getting huge; spinach is thin but they are actually my first successful ones; lettuce and carrots are getting tangled because I got lazy
Saturday afternoon walk in the backyard, September 12, 2026 😀 Today’s small harvest: eggplants, carnival squash, more tomatoes born from the compost; there’s also chard that I might pick later for dinner
Wednesday morning walk in the backyard, September 9, 2026 😀 Tomato harvest: Black Beauty, Rebel Star Fighter, an Abraham Brown, and a few cherry tomatoes from the compost.
Saturday morning greenhouse check, September 5, 2026 🙂 Almost 30 days after planting from seeds, the carrots, spinach, daikon, and lettuces are looking good. The potatoes have flowers!
