@norsemap.bsky.socialWe're starting the week with a small retrospective: the NorseMap team was lucky enough to be invited to the Dublin Festival of History International Viking Event last Friday and we had a blast! ⚔
@norsemap.bsky.socialThat’s the kind of afterlife of the Viking past we’re mapping at NorseMap.
If you spot Leif in the wild – a statue, monument, street name, business or anything else – take a pic and add it to iViking:
@norsemap.bsky.socialIf you have a depiction of Thor in your gallery, why not submit it via the #iViking app?

@norsemap.bsky.socialFor example, did you know that not only there is such a thing as Viking kebab, but that it comes in a vending machine?? Ask the Icelanders, they'll know 🫔

@norsemap.bsky.socialDid you know that you can upload images to the iViking app from your gallery? 🌄
Easily share pics of Viking heritage from your photo archives... like this super pic of a modern runestone (the Vasastenen) taken by user Ingski and submitted this week.
@norsemap.bsky.socialJust look at all the ships our iVikings have collected 🤩we look forward to finding out all the creative ways the Viking Age is used today

@norsemap.bsky.socialFar from being constrained to museums, their popularity means they are everywhere and representations range from replicas, to souvenirs, to artwork, to bottle stoppers and so much more!

@norsemap.bsky.socialToday we are #shipposting !
Viking ships are one of the most popular and enduring symbols we associate with the Viking Age - and who could blame us, really 😏

@norsemap.bsky.socialLook at this wonderful image of the Codex Regius manuscript (GKS 2365 4º) as displayed in the Edda building in Reykjavík.
It was submitted by contributor DocRife today via the iViking app. Stunning!

@norsemap.bsky.socialCoins make up only a small part of the hoard, but they range from Arabic dirhams to Anglo-Saxon pennies, showing how far reaching Viking hoarding tendencies were.

@norsemap.bsky.socialWe have been getting so many awesome submissions that we are looking to hire an extra pair of hands: job advert at the link below. Come and join the NorseMap team in Cork and help us to map the legacy of the Vikings!
@norsemap.bsky.socialWe are still haunted by Einar's call on the goat horn, a sound the Hiberno-Norse people of Cork might once have heard ringing out in the marshes.
