Exterior courtyard of the abandoned Italcementi cement plant in Catania, photographed on a rainy day under an overcast sky. The foreground is dominated by a large flooded area covering the cracked concrete surface, creating a mirror-like reflection of the surrounding industrial structures. Raindrops striking the water produce small ripples across the puddle, emphasizing the quiet and desolate atmosphere of the site. On the left stands a weathered industrial building with dark, empty window openings and traces of graffiti on the lower walls. Opposite, on the right, rise the massive concrete volumes of the former cement works, including tall silos and processing structures marked by stains, cracks, and decades of exposure to the elements. Vegetation has begun to reclaim the area, with tufts of grass, shrubs, and even a small palm growing through neglected sections of the yard. Scattered debris, broken materials, and abandoned cables lie across the ground, while a line of trees in the background partially conceals the far edge of the industrial complex. The subdued palette of gray concrete, dark water, and muted vegetation reinforces the sense of abandonment and industrial decline. The image captures the monumental scale of the former cement plant while highlighting the gradual return of nature and the effects of time on the once-active industrial site.

A detailed wide-angle photograph capturing the derelict Ex Italcementi cement factory in Catania, Sicily, under a cloudy, overcast sky. The imposing, massive brutalist concrete structure dominates the center and left of the frame. It consists of several connected, weathered concrete volumes: a tall cylindrical silo tower, a large rectangular storage building, and a sprawling, low-slung warehouse with rows of glassless window apertures and an overhang, all showing extensive decay, dirt, and staining. On the far left, a slender, multi-stage concrete water or conveyor tower stands tall. The foreground is a desolate, neglected industrial yard of dirt, cracked pavement, and dense, unkempt weeds and dry grasses, with some scrubby bushes and a small palm-like plant. To the right, mature trees offer a touch of nature. Small buildings and power pylons are subtly visible in the distance. The entire scene is bathed in diffused, cool-toned light.
