@causticautistic.bsky.socialLike yes, there are certainly other contributing factors, but the rise of #carculture and the #interstate highway system is definitely up there when it comes to eating away at the #Murica so many are so nostalgic for.

Enter the #interstate. Pure driving. Big city to big city, with just an occasional rest or truck stop with familiar chains to comfort a weary traveler.

If you look at the decline and fall of small towns across the country, it's often after an #interstate came though a few miles away. Faster, more efficient.
