Disused marker buoy, Otterspool Promenade. Canon AE-1, Ilford XP2. I opened the camera back to load a new film and found a film already in there! Head slapping moment... I lost a few but several are ok, this is one of them. #believeinfilm #filmphotography #IlfordXP2 #blackandwhitephotography

Disused marker buoy, Otterspool Promenade. Close up black and white photograph looking up at the buoy with a cloudless sky in the background. Some graffiti on the buoy in the foreground.

Half a face in shadow,
The director counts cartridges.
Autumn on the boulevard.

Frame Two: The Captain's Shadow on Tverskoy Boulevard (Ilford XP2 400) Half a face in shadow, The director counts cartridges. Autumn on the boulevard. “Vertical split, or Noir of the era of developed lull” (Version 1.0) A shift of a couple of degrees - and the light on the Ilford XP2 film breaks differently, building classical noir dramaturgy right on a bench of Tverskoy Boulevard. Half of the face is hidden in deep shadow from the foliage, as if hinting at the dual life of archival scripts, unshot sequels about Captain Ander, and the conspiracy theory of the Napoleonic Wars that Andrejs Abols dissects with cold elegance. Here, the Industar cuts off everything superfluous, leaving only the strict geometry of the bench, the fence of the boulevard, and this motionless gaze into the lens of a man who is used to existing at the intersection of epochs, formats, and closed laboratories. The frame captures the moment when reality splits into light and shadow, and the old mechanics of the camera record what history failed to capture. Technical Credits: Series: «Face to Face» Camera: Zorki 4 (№ 5855796) Lens: Industar 61L/D (№ 9126587) Film: Ilford XP2 400 Super Parameters: 1/100s, ƒ/4, natural street lighting, without flash Processing: Standard C-41 (Swag photolab) Scanner: Noritsu QSS-2901 Location & Time: Moscow, Tverskoy Boulevard, September 2014 Philosophy: "Shadow is merely the legitimate part of the frame that neither censorship nor the sun has yet managed to illuminate with their false floodlights." Second frame from the meeting on Tverskoy Boulevard. The shadow covering half his face creates a noir effect - as if fate itself reminded us: truth is never complete. A man whose film was destroyed, whose wax army numbers 3,500 figures, whose library holds 300 books about Napoleon - sits on a bench and knows: half the truth will always remain in shadow. And that's okay.Frame One: Meeting on the Steamship of Modernity (Ilford XP2 400) Tin birds are flying, The director freezes in the lens. A parsec to someone else's war. “Reconnaissance in force on Tverskoy Boulevard, or Captain Ander stranded in Moscow's September” (Version 1.1) September 2014 scattered silver light over Moscow, lost between the tree canopies of Tverskoy Boulevard and spectacle lenses. Moving away from the walls of the Cinema House, we sat on a bench - those who shared television airtime in the mid-90s like the last piece of film stock. Andrejs Abols - director whose archive-drowned sequel about Captain Ander quietly matures in parallel worlds, historian of Napoleonic battles, and a man who knows everything about the falsehood of manifestos - froze for a split second before the sharp glass of the Industar. This is neither reportage nor a formal portrait. It is the fixation of an entity that momentarily broke away from building cardboard divisions and pondering why Napoleon never intended to conquer Russia. The Ilford XP2 film swallowed the street noise, leaving only a monochrome engraving of time: the face of a man who knows for sure that any plots - from battles to "Civil Wager" - will sooner or later end in credits, leaving behind only optics, the chemistry of the "Sweg" lab, and this long, direct gaze. Technical Credits: Series: «Face to Face» Camera: Zorki 4 (№ 5855796) Lens: Industar 61L/D (№ 9126587) Film: Ilford XP2 400 Super Parameters: 1/100s, ƒ/4, natural street lighting, without flash Processing: Standard C-41 (Swag photolab) Scanner: Noritsu QSS-2901 Location & Time: Moscow, Tverskoy Boulevard, September 2014 Philosophy: "The truth is that history is written not by the victors, no matter how loud their manifestos, but by those who managed to reload the shutter in time and refused to play someone else's game." Andrejs Abols is a filmmaker whose movie "Civil Wager" (1992) was destroyed at the Sverdlovsk Film Studio "due to expiration of storage per…
