A red commuter train fills the left two-thirds of the frame, smeared by motion into horizontal bands: a saturated red roof, a pale green stripe, a gray window band, and a red lower body above a second pale green sill. In the windows, blurred passengers in jackets sit in rows, readable as people but without faces. A thin streak of white and orange light with a cyan fringe runs across the glass. The upper third of the frame is nearly black, a dark station ceiling. On the right, a man in dark clothing walks the platform carrying a bag, his torso and head fairly legible, his legs trailing into a translucent double image. The gray platform floor has a pale strip and dark tactile markings running diagonally from the bottom center toward him. Formally, the image sets a fast subject against a slow one. Motion blur turns the train into fields of color, saturated red against pale green, while the walker, only partly blurred, becomes the single legible figure, near the right-hand third. The platform diagonal leads the eye up to him. The black ceiling gives the color a hard edge to push against. The ghosted passengers and the walker’s doubled outline carry the same idea from two directions: people in transit, present but not quite fixed in place. It reads as a street picture about time passing at different speeds. Experimental random icm photography technique. Black background with amorphous shape on left side in various shades of white and grey in diagonal upward lines of light. Top right bright red and red-orange in similar configuration blurring into the background. Additional diagonal more subtle shapes bottom right in shades of grey. This was taken indoors with random rotating and shaking of digital camera, an old Casio Exilim. No special setup or lighting, no filters, and no heavy editing afterwards. No robots.
