The #CassiniHuygens space probe to the #Saturn system, a joint project of #NASA, #ESA, & #ASI, launched from #CapeCanaveral, Florida, on #ThisDayInHistory in 1997. The #Huygens lander touched down on #Titan in 2005, and the highly successful #Cassini mission itself ended in 2017.

This is the only film ever shot on the way down to a moon of Saturn. In 2005 the Huygens probe parachuted through Titan's haze, filmed channels cut by rivers of methane, and landed among cobbles of ice.

Real ESA/NASA descent footage. AI-assisted narration. #Titan #Huygens

Only 350 Titan images reached Earth when Huygens was built to send 700. A missed command meant Cassini never listened to channel A. Half the planned photos lost, even as Huygens made the farthest landing from Earth ever. Landed on Titan 14 January 2005. #Spaceflightpedia #Huygens #Titan #Cassini

We have two days of discussions on digital history ahead of us. I’m really looking forward to it!
