There's somewhere between 140-170 pits recorded from inside the Caburn hillfort in East #Sussex (the largest being Roman)

Not a British hillfort, part lll (but still Iron Age!) The fortified palace of Toprak-Kala, built by the Kwarezm kingdom in the 1st/2nd century CE. It contained Hellenistic reliefs and frescoes. Now part of the Fifty Forts region of Uzbekistan.

Now that I am safely back down out of the Rhinog mountains here are some more views of the Craig y Dinas hillfort. While considered to be Iron Age it reminded me a lot of small Early Medieval defended sites. The 2m wide wall is impressive as is the passage entrance. #HillfortsWednesday
