#HamiltonDay
On October 16, 1843, William Rowan Hamilton discovered quaternions walking beside the Grand Canal and scratched the formula into the stone of Broombridge.

There is an annual walk commemorating this event.

The week in which 16 Oct falls has been, for 21 years, #MathsWeek in Ireland.
