Marguerite "Peggy" Guggenheim was an American art collector, bohemian, and socialite. Born to the wealthy New York City Guggenheim family, she was the daughter of Benjamin Guggenheim, who went down with the Titanic in 1912.

Peggy Guggenheim had an insatiable appetite for art and sex. While building one of the most impressive art collections the modern world has ever seen, she was also busy bedding men left and right. While in Europe, it is said she slept with almost 1,000 men. She claimed to have had affairs with numerous artists and writers, and in return, many claimed to have had affairs with her. Once, she even claimed to have had sex with a fictional character: William Boyd’s Nat Tate.
While extremely wealthy, Peggy bought only 2 or 3 dresses a year. She used her money instead to buy art. She opened a gallery in London called Guggenheim Jeune, showcasing artists such as JEAN COCTEAU, Jean Arp and Kandinsky. On one trip to Paris, she bought 10 Pablo Picasso, 8 Joan Mirós and 3 Man Rays, among others.
In front of The Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, there is a bronze sculpture of a naked boy, in a state of arousal, with his two arms extended. Scandalous as she was, Peggy made sure the penis was detachable, so as not to offend the more conservative dignitaries and visiting archbishops.
Peggy died in 1979. In her lifetime, Peggy Guggenheim loved many, and loved them ardently. But the great love of her life was neither man nor woman, but always, truly, her love for art.

Bo takes a very tall #verto inside the stunning Guggenheim Museum in #Bilboa, Spain.

Designed by Frank Gehry and opened in October 1997, the #Guggenheim Bilboa is celebrated as a deconstructivist masterpiece of modern #architecture that has become Gehry's style. 😮

Thanks for sharing, Bo!

Wojciech Fangor (November 15, 1922 – October 25, 2015) was a world-renowned Polish painter, graphic artist, and sculptor. He remains celebrated as one of the most influential pioneers of postwar Op Art (Optical Art) and a master of spatial abstraction.
Born in Warsaw, Fangor secretly trained under famous painters Tadeusz Pruszkowski and Felicjan Szczęsny Kowarski during the German occupation of Poland. He graduated from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in 1946.
n the early 1950s, he initially aligned with state-mandated Socialist Realism, painting iconic works such as Figures (1950) and Korean Mother (1951).
Concurrently, he became a co-founder of the highly influential Polish Poster School, utilizing dynamic graphic compositions and photo-collage elements for cultural and cinema advertisements.
Disillusioned by traditional figurative styles, Fangor pivoted dramatically toward geometric abstraction. Alongside architect Stanisław Zamecznik, he created Studium Przestrzeni (Study of Space), which is widely recognized as Poland’s first environmental art installation.
Through the late 1950s and 1960s, Fangor perfected his most iconic technique. By meticulously painting circles and waves with soft, blurred borders, he caused colors to visually bleed and expand into the viewer's physical field of vision. This optical illusion created an impression of light and motion pulsing straight off the canvas.
Fangor emigrated from Poland in 1961, traveling through Europe before moving to the United States in 1966.
His unique bridge between pure eye-tricks and the depth of Color Field painting caught the attention of Western curators. He was the only Polish artist included in MoMA’s landmark 1965 exhibition The Responsive Eye.
In 1970, he became the first and only Polish artist to receive a monographic, solo exhibition at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York.
During his time in America, he taught at institutions including Fairleigh Dickinson University and Harvard University.
