Conks on a birch, March 2025

I think the conks are Fomes fomentarius. Hard to tell from this photo, but they're common on birches in that area.

Any interpretation of the #WeeklyTheme is okay. For example, for #GreySkies I might post both photos of a grey sky and photos where the sky just happens to be grey. We'll see what I find.

This is the Varnhem Abbey church in damp weather, 2016

An big medieval Roman-Gothic church built in stone, photographed against a grey sky. It's a "cross" church with a single spire, a nave with side aisles and transepts, and several layers of roofs behind the choir. There are buttresses everywhere, making the structure look very complex. The Varnhem Abbey was founded in the 1150's, but there are traces of Christian burials from the 9th century at the site.

Just got back from Mallorca where the weather has been variable. This is Cala Mesquida, a place I last saw 51 years ago. Memories of learning to swim here. Unfortunately this time it was stormy & wet 🙂⛈️

We are in Prince Rupert. Up too early but we are a morning couple. A couple of pictures showing the harbour at Prince Rupert. Later this morning we head out on a 7-8 hour ferry ride to Haida Gwaii .
