The first half of this series is a mix of highs and lows. The heat is <i><b>spicy</b></i> and very kinky. It's also dark as River Rose Fox is put through her paces in some nasty, horrific ways. Truly heartbreaking. Checking triggers is to be considered.

I do love that she has Mr. Bobby and Polly looking out for her, as well as the rest of her (found) family. There are also the men who are present in her life: Tyler Walker who likes to "heal" her in some very naughty, very exciting ways. Nathaniel Reed who gives her hope for a forever. Kai Briggs, her childhood best friend and first love. Marco Mancini is the biggest alphahole of them all but has the potential to be the best for her.

Even when things go sideways, I love how she perseveres. Aside from with her loved ones, she doesn't back down on tough conversations, be it a jealous ex, a business associate, or a client.

Reading in release order is absolutely recommended, as each book builds on the one(s) before. I think the writing and characters get better with every installment, so it isn't a hardship.

I listened to the books. The narrators, Lenox Louis / Kallestra Spencer, Sean Masters, and Ryan Lee Dunlap, are great. I love the sass, heat, and attitude that comes flying across my earbuds (definitely listen with those on). 🎧❤️🎧

Every once and again, River starts to lose herself, but I admire when she course corrects. She stands up to those in her orbit and takes back her power. Unsurprisingly, that doesn't stop people from continuing to try to ruffle her or from being hurt, one of which is an absolute heartbreaker. 💔😢🤧 Yeah, that one required a quiet moment.

How this left off? I expect that to go over like a lead balloon. Hmm... what kind of trouble is in store for River? I can't wait to find out! Seriously, I have all kinds of thoughts, but I am intrigued as to how this may play out.

I listened to the audio book. The narrators are Kallestra Spencer and Sean Masters. As most of the book is from River's POV, I really wish this was in duet, but I like the narrators and can deal. 🎧❤️🎧

River (Rose, Skittles, Psyche) Fox continues to lead an interesting life. This isn't a traditional romance as she's an escort and hasn't met her one... yet. I love that we get to see her personal and professional lives.

I like Nathaniel (Candy Aisle Guy / CAG) Reed, even if he has secrets of his own. He definitely removed himself from friend zone territory and is proving to be quite the companion! 🥵🌶🔥 Things get primal and down right naughty. Not only do I love the heat level, but I also love how River is able to let go and live in the moment.

There are some dark elements. It bears repeating: this isn't a safe book, nor is it a traditional romance. There's plenty of dirty fun, several kinks, and a few crossed lines.

My opinions from book one of Kai Briggs solidify. I like the new client, Elijah Duke. My heart goes out to anyone in that situation, and how it concludes is inspiring. The psycho? Yeah, I would've been OK not having him show up, but it is part of her journey. Until the next installment....

I listened to the audio book. The narrators are Ryan Lee Dunlap and Kallestra Spencer. They were really easy to listen to. The book just flew by thanks to good writing and narration. 🎧❤️🎧

I really like how this starts with zero preamble with an interesting client. River "Rose" Fox definitely leads an interesting life. It may not be a traditional career choice, but I appreciate that she embraces it and does what she feels she must.

I do love that even when things go sideways, she perseveres. Aside from with her loved ones, she doesn't back down on tough conversations, be it a jealous ex, a business associate, or a client.

As for the men in her life, not surprisingly, she has some things going on there. First up is her childhood love, best friend, and occasional lover, Kai Briggs. I'm not a fan. He's too... what's the word?... selfish will have to do. His actions don't line up with their supposed destiny.

Next up is the very fine billionaire, Tyler Walker. Mmm... yeah, there's only one unfortunate downside to him from Rose's perspective. The other parts are very enticing. Yeah, I'm a bit partial to him.

Then we have the neighborhood guy, Nathaniel (Nate, Candy Aisle Guy or CAG) Reed, who is close to friend zoning himself but seems like a good guy in need of a second chance at love. Even if he isn't right for River, I like their budding relationship.

Lastly, we have the unknown stalker who leaves extremely... unconventional... and creepy "gifts." On one hand, I'm curious where this goes. On the other hand, I want him to just fade away. *shivers*

This isn't a safe book, nor is it a traditional romance. There's plenty of dirty fun, several kinks, and a few crossed lines.

I'm intrigued enough to want to see what comes next. The next book sounds very promising. 😉

I knew this would end in a cliffhanger, but DANG! 🫢 Well played, Abby. Well played.

I'm starting in the middle of the trilogy, and I'm able to easily keep up. There are a few back story items that I'd like more details on. For those, I do have the first book and hope to go back to it before I read the conclusion, but I don't think it's a requirement.

From the beginning, Sawyer (little nuisance, petit diable, Sawwie(sp?)) Davvies is fighting her attractions even to the men she's already given herself to. One man is twisted, the other hot. I expected this to be wicked hot, and it didn't disappoint. 🌶

Now, here's my quick take on our amorous, possessive men. Tytus (Ty) Tremblay definitely has some demons that he needs to exorcize before he can be worthy of Sawyer. His 🍆 piercings do have me overlooking a flaw or five. 🔥 And those moments they get lost in each other are... 🫦 ...dynamite. 💥 I think he's the hardest for me to come around to.

The past haunts Mercer Eden, too, and when he gives into the darkness, I'm left wondering if Sawyer can forgive his mistake. He is definitely over-the-top even on a good day. I mostly find his antics hit my dark sense of humor. He does need a swift kick in the pants on occasion. Just be careful where you kick because those other skills are very yummy. The fact that he seems to be as fluid with his sexuality as Sawyer makes me like him a bit more.

Noah Henry is the heart and provides a safe space for those he cares for. He's incredibly easy to like. Like everyone else, he has some ghosts that haunt him, but his sensitive nature calls to me.

I'll be back. I need to see where this goes.

From the beginning, the heartbreak is just so... heartbreaking. My whole body is tense from everything Iris Sullivan is dealing with from the opening pages. It's a lot yet captivating. Is it wrong that I find some joy when Maverick (Mav) Harrington eats crow? I think it's a humbling event.

While my heart goes out to Iris, and I respect how she does everything she can for her son, I really dislike Maverick for the first half of the book. Of course, he's not the only one that has majorly misstepped, but he sets the tone, and others follow his lead. Does she forgive him a little too quickly? In my opinion, yes, but I'm a bit more jaded than Iris.

I have similar feelings about others who change their attitude on a dime. That said, I appreciate that they see the err of their ways and am focusing more on that aspect.

Taking it a step further are the folks who were kind regardless of what happened. I love that Linc also has a special bond with those people. He's such a sweet kid.

PPD and child neglect (not originating from the same source) are topics covered to varying degrees. Not a lot of emphasis is put on them, but they are present.

I listened to the audio book. The narrators, Chloe Ryan and Sean Masters, are wonderful and easy to listen to. I really like both of them. 🎧❤️🎧
