The Megwin, megafaunal apex predator of The Great Steppe. A beast more analogous to Allosaurus than grizzly, Its bone-crushing jaws, rending claws, & arrow-turning hide inspire fear & awe in equal. In fact & southern folklore, the king of steppe, wood, & mountain.

The Megwin ("great jaw" in Kwamodaa) isn't native The Cradle, but it's prominence in the cultures of southern Arcadia made it quickly known to merchants and explorers from up north. This isn't actually the first appearance of a Megwin in what I've posted here, off the top of my head the Magda warrior a few posts back had a Megwin head pommel on his dagger, and there's likely some mention buried in some alt text somewhere.
Had to add a human reference to fill dead space, the keen eyed might notice the Kwamodaa spelling doesn't quite line up, so have fun figuring that out.

The Kenakse, a domesticated avian endemic to The Craddle. Powerful frames, swift stride, & relative passivity make them ideal as beasts of burden & mounts, quickly spreading across the continent in conjunction with the advanced agriculture needed to maintain them.
#Gobocene #Fauna #Worldbuilding

The males are usually used as draft animals while the females are preferred as mounts, due to them being larger (and more flashy),
Their use as mounts is marginally stunted by this as they form flocks around a dominant female and a large harem of males.
Just the same, needs make due and sometimes males are saddled as mounts as well, the one shown here has a harness ring, so maybe he's used to train young riders before they graduate to the larger, brighter sex
a note on names: Kenakse can be broken down in two ways either kenak - "saddle" & se - "bird" or the front half further broken down to ke - "foot" nak - "wander", so depending on your preference an English translation wouldeither be "Saddle-Bird" or "Wandering-Foot-Bird".

The Baaw, the single most prolific domesticated animal on the planet. Roughly analogous to dogs, these socially intelligent semiarboreal mesocarnivores have followed goblins across the planet, diversifying into breeds of all shapes & size from lapdog to war-mount.
#Gobocene #Fauna #Worldbuilding

A fairly run-of-the-mill example of a baaw, the sort of breed you could really see anywhere in Arcadia & Campestria. A fine companion in hunting or at home.
After touching on the Magda (called Apobaaw, "people of the baaw"in Kwamodaa) I realized that I never actually mentioned these critters prior, felt like important context.
To summarize their general vibe, imagine a dog with the dexterity and climbing habits of a cat and you're pretty well there. Luv me funky possum-dogs

The Magda, masters of The Great Steppe, atop their baaw they guide vast herds of yaam, run down the wooly bonehead, & range across the cold expanses of southern Arcadia. Fiercely egalitarian, a great confederation of clans now stand defiant against the ambitions of empire.
#Gobocene #Worldbuilding

Wanted to do a more dynamic piece to put to rest the fraud allegations put forth by my own brain.
The lad astride what's essentially a giant sheepdog is of the northern Magda, who've banded together in a tribal confederation in response to The Middle Kingdom's advance east & south, as such his armor is partly scavenged from Middle Kingdom soldiers.
You may be cool, but will you ever be "riding my giant dog into battle adorned in trophies from my slain imperialist foes" cool?
Anyway, love how this turned out. I'm back to the grindstone so hopefully expect more work soon.

The Taam, a bronze axe-head produced en masse by the High-Houses of the Apikwam. They've come to be the symbol of soft-power and the cultural reach of the City-States, being found all over The Cradle and further afield across Arcadia.
#Gobocene #Worldbuilding #Conlanging

Though intended as an axe it often serves many roles as a knife, scraper, ulu, and any other such cutting-thing. Some groups also wear them as pendants as a show of wealth

Some common sea critters and their Kwamodaa names, from left to right.
Ko: Hard shelled bivalve a bit like a mussel
Gwa: filter feeding hard shelled squids
Geb: Crustacean like arthropods
Praa: Shelled squids
Maa: Fish

Animals in coastal environments tend to have shells on account of the general violence of the tides, the surf regularly battering you against the rocks forms an effective evolutionary filter.

Wayu, wandering musician & (mostly former) petty thief from the City-States. Abandoned as a child & left without a clan, her fortunes turned being inducted into a troupe of musicians & later meeting Okh. Loud, brash, & cocky, with the will & skill to back it up.

She hides it under her hair, but the right side of her face bears a terrible burn scar, a painful reminder past woes.
Her name is derived from *Way* /waɪː/, meaning "Flower", with the feminine -u suffix attached.
