#Sept11 #GaryBox #NYC #NYCFireFighters

A fireman walking in the battery tunnel crossing from Brooklyn to Manhattan on Sept 11Jake Barton, Founder Local Projects, Fast Company... This photo is of a young firefighter Gary Box who lost his life on 9/11. I was asked about this photo yesterday on a podcast and very unexpectedly and very uncharacteristically, I started crying describing it. This photo was gathered for the 9/11 Memorial & Museum through a project my studio Local Projects developed called "Make History" where people from around the world could donate photos of that day. That was a very new and optimistic idea at the time. When you look, you can see that he has left his firetruck, to run through the Battery tunnel, to make it to the towers. His parents found the photo and got in touch, so they could thank the Danish businessman who had taken the photo-- It was the last photo taken of Gary alive.
