@gaiasky.bsky.socialHere is a comparison between the volume-rendered Milky Way (left) and the particle-based Milky Way (right) in #GaiaSky. The additive nature of the particle-based MW makes it lose most of its brightness in the top-down view, while it blows out in the edge-on view.
@gaiasky.bsky.socialI have been working on a volume version of the particle-based Milky Way galaxy for #GaiaSky (by @stefanpw.bsky.social). It is still WIP, but it works quite well already. In the video, the first tests, running in real time on a graphics card from 2016.
