A visitor in the banana trees for #FolkloreThursday! Southern folk belief considers green tree frogs sacred garden guardians. Finding one tucked in your leaves promises thriving soil, and old mountain lore warns that harming a tree frog will cause your spring or well to run dry. #FolkWitch #WitchSky

For “anythingelsemancy,” I read stones by scent.

Catching a rock's aroma reveals its energetic work: folk charms, altar placement, or healing. A whiff of its energies tells me what work the stone does and where its medicine belongs.

Give me an old book over a crystal ball any day! Bibliomancy is a personal favorite. Close your eyes, let your thumb flick through the pages, and drop a finger down blind. It’s wild how often the page answers back with exactly what you need.

People look for spirits with their eyes, but mine arrive by scent - ironic, because my everyday sense of smell is poor.

The dead visit on familiar breezes: fresh coffee, clothesline linen, sweet rose perfume. I smell them before I see them.

Luminous wisps of smoke curl and billow across a dark, shadowy background. Shifting streams of cool pale white, translucent gray, and warm beige twist around one another, evoking the invisible currents and distinct scent energies of visiting spirits moving through the air.

It’s wild how messages line up when you’re meant to get them. For me, it’s hawks screaming close overhead back to back, followed by strangers out in public saying the exact words tied to what I’m chewing on. "Reality" really just turns the volume all the way up. #FolkWitchFriday #WitchSky #FolkWitch

Water nymph, mud crawler, aerial master, and lethal spark of fire - the dragonfly holds all four corners of the wild. They are my fierce allies in the swamp and across the threshold of dreams. A quiet perch on an outstretched finger seals our bond. #FolkWitchFriday #Animism #FolkWitch

A first-person view of my outstretched left forearm against green grass. A real, metallic blue dragonfly perches calmly atop an upright middle finger, directly aligning with an intricate blue tattoo below of a winged skeleton key with dragonfly wings and a witch-foot symbol.

Familiars in folk practice are living guardians at the sill. My dog Rebel woke us to 30ft flames engulfing a neighbor’s house. Our dog Freckles sounded an urgent alarm that saved my son’s life. Familiars keep watch over the threshold and our blood. #FolkWitchFriday #WitchSky #FolKWitch

Rest is not time stolen from the work. It is part of the rhythm that keeps us whole.

The night knows how to hold what we cannot. 🌙

A cell phone capture - a quiet moment in my yard this morning. Old Southern folk called this "The Yardstick" to mark the seasons, but in my folk path he is "The Armed King". Sand underfoot, watching him rise over the pines... What is above is rooted below.

Clear night sky above dark treetops featuring the full constellation of Orion. The center shows the three Belt stars—Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka—with the sword hanging below. Two bright stars above the belt mark the shoulders (Betelgeuse and Bellatrix), and two bright stars below mark the feet or knees (Rigel and Saiph).

A low-angle, close-up photo of an intricate spiderweb glistening with morning dew in a green lawn. The web forms a delicate, tent-like structure anchored to the base of the grass, tapering upward with fine silk anchor lines attached to the curved tip of a single tall blade of grass. Droplets of water bead along the silk threads and cling to the plant. The background shows soft, blurred green trees under an overcast morning sky.
