Lots of Northeastern nautical lore fuels this one, and there’s some good moments and nicely-framed shots but it feels about 20-30 minutes too long while adding little. Meh.

Using the hand of the dead as magic is old folklore, and this modern take on it is fantastic: good writing, cinematography, acting, and tension throughout. Absolutely great.

This tasty take on Wendigo folklore is mixed with the Donner Party, manifest destiny, and a dash of dark humor. Beautiful scenery and bloody gore provide a feast for the eyes, too. Love it!

The quintessential modern werewolf movie. Great story, well shot, award-winning effects, and in turns funny and horrific. One of the very best.

It is film minimalism taken to the extreme. No real plot or characters, just slow, plodding imagery and vague attempts at gross-outs. Skip it.
