Halfway into #Orktober and I've refreshed the paint and laid down a base coat for the new basing scheme. Still need a few more highlights on the Hobgrots, but I think I'm going to get this done!

The Kruleboyz half of the Dominion box, painted and somewhat based. Green orcs, orange hobgoblins, with blue and orange as unifying colors.

Not pictured, one Hobgrot has made a bid for freedom somewhere in the workshop. Aaaargh.

These Hobgrots were the worst of the bunch. Bad priming, a weak base coat, and a too-heavy drybrush had reduced them to a monotone khaki, and that was before years of #Orktober handling!

I can tell I've improved since I first painted these, and am confident that this is The Year!

Hobgrots on the edge of a ceramic plate. These little guys, engaged in an assortment of stabbing, grenade-chucking, and other mercenary hooliganism are yellow-brown, and wear blue steel armor plates held in rope harnesses. On the ones facing away from the camera, they're wearing black modesty shorts. Cowardice, GW, cowardice! The people demand hobgrot heiney!

The problem with only working on an army in #Orktober for years is finding all the details I missed or got wrong last time. Slow going.

But progress is being made. I'm not a good highlight painter, but even a quick and dirty one on these shields seriously improved them. Really fun.

You can tell I really enjoy my hobbies because I'm working 12 hours today and I'm still using some of my precious free time to re-establish the color on some hobgrot breechcloths.

But it's also #FinishShitFall, so here we go.

My scheme for these guys was super flat, low-saturation, almost more of a scale model take. And while part of that worked, with these grubby black and grey rags and aged pale swamp wood, once it came around to basing it was all too much.

After a good morning for Dullkote and hunting through supplies trying to find tufts for basing, I've finished some Hellblasters and my Chaplain for my 40k Blood Angels! It took me so long to get around to these that I forgot my own basing paint recipe!

A green cutting mat with space marines on it; a Chaplain, a Lieutenant, a squad of 5 Assault Intercessors, and a squad of 5 Hellblasters. The Chaplain wears black armor, and all the others wear red. The Hellblasters have blue helmets, the Intercessors have yellow, and the Lieutenant has gold. All bear a winged drop of blood on their left shoulder.

In the spirit of #FinishShitFall (it's a hashtag now. Deal with it) here's some shit I'm finishing.

The chaplain for my Blood Angels (can you have too many chaplains for Blood Angels?) is ready for matte clear and tufts. The captain was put together from sub assemblies...from last year.
