Thursday morning filled with #GeographyTeacher #Fieldwork for the second consecutive day.

Proud of some much better PACING today!

Not having Ofsted looming over me probably helped, but I also made a point of SITTING more as the students worked on the beach. Having an extra staff member helped too.

Heartrate graph from Visible Health. Orange is exertion. Resting pace for much of the time on the beach.

We spent an excellent first day with staff and MSc students from the @uniofstandrews.bsky.social. We explored local habitats, had a GPS exercise and deployed camera traps. Highlights were some fantastic fungi, Bloody-nosed Beetles and Wild Boar signs. @mikemwebster.bsky.social #fieldwork #entomology

Helping spread the word about these brilliant guidelines that @canopyrobin.com and others have put together specifically for trans+ people (anywhere in the world) who do #fieldwork.
Please do share in any networks you’re part of where this might be relevant 🤓🏳️‍⚧️🤓

ROLE?

Trans+ Guidelines

Transgender researchers face substantial inequity and risk when undertaking fieldwork. The guidelines on this page expand upon the PRIDE Guidelines for LGBTQ+ Inclusive Fieldwork by focusing specifically on the inclusion of trans+ identities.

Cartoon of fieldworkers
These guidelines were created through a series of focus groups with trans+ researchers and self-described allies, as part of the Pathways: Participatory Approaches to Trans-Inclusive Field Research project. The project was facilitated by and developed in collaboration with Dr Robin Hayward, who is a trans science communicator and scientist, and who consulted on the trans-inclusivity of the project throughout. The project was led by Professor Martin Zebracki, in collaboration with Dr Tilen Kolar, and was funded by the Research England Enhancing Research Culture Fund.

These guidelines use the term 'trans+' to refer to all identities under the trans umbrella, which may include non-binary and gender non-conforming or gender questioning identities, as well as binary transgender identities. The term ‘fieldwork’ is used to describe any work carried out beyond a researcher’s home institution. Fieldwork can be conducted nationally or internationally and can involve travelling to places that are new or familiar, local or remote, rural or urban. Fieldwork may also include conference attendance and visiting other institutions on a temporary basis.

A day in the life of a geographer 🌍
Muddy boots, messy notes, a map slowly taking shape, a room full of questions. Geography looks different depending on where you're standing. Student, researcher, professor, or practitioner: which frame is your day today? 🌍🗺️ #Geography #GIS #Fieldwork

It feels quite Autumnal down beside the River Dart. Slow stroll to town, via each and every bench; with my folding camping-chair with me for back-up 🙏

Three part-days of #fieldwork upcoming and I need to reassess my walking capacity.
