Like I said previously with my recent cover of Vampire Killer, I had not only finally beaten the original Castlevania recently, but also the beloved PC Engine CD classic Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. Now that I've finally gone through that adventure, I knew it was finally time to get to its sequel, the game widely considered to be the best in the entire franchise (or at least the best before the 21st century): the Sony PlayStation classic Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I've been playing it for a while now, and while I'm not sure I'd consider it my favorite Castlevania when I had already played and loved some of the DS game Portrait of Ruin beforehand (listen to my Invitation of a Crazed Moon cover please), it's definitely a very good game and one deserving of its classic status. Its music is very good overall too, done by the then-new series regular Michiru Yamane. One of the best songs she did for the game in my opinion is the main menu theme Prayer. Like Rondo of Blood's menu theme Requiem, Prayer is a hymn of sorts sung in a grand space like a cathedral. Unlike Requiem though, Prayer is a duet hymn, even more beautiful and powerful (in fact, the vocals for it were apparently performed by Michiru's younger sister Kahori Yamane; she's really got pipes). This song is so incredible to me that I'll sometimes just sit there listening to it on the menu screen for at least 5-10 minutes before I even load my save file; it's that good. So, I figured since the song isn't too complicated in terms of arrangement, I figured I would also cover it for Halloween this year. I decided to go with the Famicom with the expansion audio of the Konami VRC6 in Dn-FamiTracker as an homage to Akumajou Densetsu (Castlevania 3), though I decided to make my volume envelopes from scratch rather than trying to make the style match.
