He seemed to really get it, too, that he didn’t need to do things to prove to his dad anymore, because he could clearly see there was no extreme he could ever go to or ever go through that would make a dent in his father’s attitude of despising him. I explained that while it is hard to accept that his father really did despise him, that he will find it easier than most, because he at least knew it ... and didn’t try to pretend it wasn’t true.
