Spent a sunny day last week digging a soil pit into an #esker in northern #Michigan as part of our #NSF funded #research project reconstructing the #Laurentide #IceSheet #glacial history of the #GreatLakes! The esker isn't huge, but the #LiDAR image shows it is there! #geology #earthscience

Photograph of a harvested corn field on a clear day in front of the esker ridge, which is the tree line in the background.Using a digger to excavate a soil profile exposure into the esker. One of the samples of sand collected from the profile being held in an aluminum tube
A LiDAR image of the esker, which is not prominent, but is there.
