A tragic loss of life at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Our thoughts are with everyone affected.
This tragedy raises important questions about safety and our relationship with animals. Tigers belong in the wild, not in captivity for human entertainment.

This is a blog from five years ago. I wrote a whole series on the lives of individual captive orcas, to share their stories and help us realise how cruel captivity is.

Looks like a pod of bottlenose were driven into the cove they will be held overnight for selection. #taijijapan end this cruelty. #EndCaptivity
For visitors, a trip to the zoo lasts a few hours. For gorillas behind the glass, captivity can last a lifetime.
Gorillas are individuals, not exhibits. This #WorldGorillaDay, protect them and their wild homes – where they belong. 🦍🌿
Every year starting in September, horrific drive hunts take place in Japan to capture dolphins for the captivity industry, and so, so many are killed. It's awful. Read more below.

For over a year, Elephant Madhuri was living in a sanctuary. Now, she is being sent back to the temple where she lived chained and in pain for years. Tell Indian officials to return Madhuri to Vantara sanctuary! www.petauk.org/4mr

Aquariums Put the ‘CON’ in Conservation
#EndCaptivity
Three years ago today, I wrote this blog (below).
Clear glass. Blue water. From the outside, aquariums look like windows into another world.
But for the animals inside, the glass is a prison.
Marine animals don't exist for us to see up close. The ocean belongs to them. Their freedom should too. 🌊
If she were free, she could journey through vast oceans. Instead, visitors move past the glass, stop to look, then leave.
She stays behind - in a tank, far removed from the wild world she evolved to navigate.
All marine animals are ocean travellers, not exhibits.
