Gone, as in epubcheck: a fatal error on an OPF declaring Shift_JIS, windows-1254 or Big5, which hid every other check. A UTF-16 SVG or NCX no longer comes out as "not well-formed".
Now an error, as in epubcheck: a Latin-1 chapter.

Now an error, as in epubcheck: a Latin-1 chapter.
Now valid, as in epubcheck: an img with srcset and no src, and epub:switch inside a paragraph. A query-only link no longer also reports a missing file.
Now an error, as in epubcheck: image[1].jpg as a URL, aria-hidden=" true" (stray space), epub:type on head.
EPUB 2: an attribute on the wrong SVG element, a keyword SVG 1.1 does not allow, or a font without its font-face is now an error, as in epubcheck. EPUB 3 gets the same checks as notes. None of the 544 books on my shelf changed.
CSS errors now say what is wrong. Where it used to print "CSS syntax error", it now prints e.g. "invalid selector '. h-10, . y-10' at '.'" or "'{' is never closed", with line and column. A reader asked for it on Reddit.
