Parts of the Southeast and West saw improvement this week, plus Puerto Rico. Drought or dryness worsened in parts of the Midwest. The Northeast and South saw mixed conditions.

U.S. Drought Monitor October 15, 2026

For the 50 states and Puerto Rico, the U.S. Drought Monitor shows 45.05% in moderate drought or worse, compared to 46.29% last week.

Looking at last week's Drought Monitor and the newest one released today...
No change in most areas, though some spots that were showing no issues have seen Abnormally Dry conditions return.

US Drought Monitor class change map comparing conditions from September 29 to September 22. Improvements occurred across much of the West and High Plains this week, with degradations in parts of the South. Mixed conditions occurred in the Midwest, Northeast and Southeast.
