Lucy McQuinn was murdered and she’s pretty pissed off about it. She possesses a creepy porcelain doll and then goes on a mission for revenge. Lucy is a troublesome narrator, though, and the author sells her out from the start. But it’s important in understanding as the story plays out, that it is the version of events *as told by Lucy*. Like all of us do, she colors things in her favor, even without knowing it. It still offers plenty of bloody kills, gory set pieces, and nods to Horror tropes. The second book in the Burnt Sparrow series, and I found it superior to the first in every way. Of course, I understand all the work Eric did setting up the world and the characters in the first book that made this deep dive into depravity possible.
