We have a churning problem in #alttech.

#ActivityPub grew from #PubSubHubbub, built on #AtomPub, built on #RSS - roots in the high tide of the #openweb. Since then, progressive tech has churned sideways, while people drifted to the #dotcons and we ended up in this #techshit heap.

Billionaire spectacle is a show; the #dotcons and #traditionalmedia keep selling tickets to. Elon Musk is the latest star, soaking up our focus while the #nastyfew concentrating wealth and power carry on untouched.

Can the #openweb reboot scale without copying the #dotcons? #oldaily https://www.downes.ca/post/79866 This is very much the sort of question that has been central; in my thinking for the last few years.

Back in the #mainstreaming world, the #dotcons are shaping young people into a future where they know little beyond worshipping the #deathcult.

It's a shit-heap mess, but shit is compost. The #Fediverse is a handle of the #OMN shovel.

We don't need another shiny platform. We need to start […]

People and media become objects in shared open flows rather than things to be enclosed and monetized.

Simple enough to sound like common sense.Radical enough to challenge the #dotcons.

#4opens #openweb #KISS

The point of the #OMN gets buried under the tech, strip it back and the idea is simple, and quite radical - people and content are commons objects by default, private or owned only by exception.

The #dotcons work the other way around: enclosure and ownership by default, openness by exception […]

We need useful historical lesson about keeping power close to participation. To compost the #dotcons, the #openweb needs more people with shovels https://hamishcampbell.com/to-compost-the-dotcons-the-openweb-needs-to-shovel-harder/
