I will be glad, if so.

Today is #IndigenousPeoplesDay and here's a post I wrote recently about the contribution made by Jamaica's indigenous people to consultations on #deepseamining - echoing the pleas of their brothers and sisters in the Pacific.

🌊 Incredible! 57 new deep-sea species have been discovered around 2.5km underwater, including a sea cucumber dubbed "Loki"

It is unconscionable to allow destructive mining in these places before science has had a chance to understand them #DefendTheDeep

If deep-sea mining cannot demonstrate a clear public benefit even before environmental costs are considered, there is no economic justification for exposing the deep ocean to irreversible harm.
A moratorium is the economically responsible choice. #DefendTheDeep

Princess Esmeralda of Belgium just delivered a strong opening speech at #OceanWeek in front of the European Parliament. She called on us to choose protection before destruction when it comes to #DeepSeaMining

"Once we destroy ecosystems in the deep ocean we won't get it back."

🌊💰 #DeepSeaMining companies are scrambling to profit from a loophole that should never have existed.

The #seabed is the common heritage of humankind, not a corporate clearance sale.

Close the loophole. #DefendTheDeep 🐙

Thank you, Brenda. Indeed it is. Caribbean activists, Greenpeace USA and @deepseaconserve.bsky.social are supporting and in solidarity with the Pacific islanders, who are fighting the monster of deep sea mining.
