THE QUIETEST PLACE ON EARTH

Finding dark matter means rejecting everything that can imitate it.

Deep underground, water shields, muon vetoes, ultra-pure xenon, and screened materials help silence cosmic and radioactive backgrounds.

A WIMP may leave no visible track, but a liquid xenon detector can catch two flashes: prompt S1 light and delayed S2 electroluminescence.

Their timing and pattern help reconstruct the event in 3D and classify recoil candidates.
